I love working on canvas. It feels like “Art” instead of “Craft”. Do you ever feel that way? I sometimes feel like my work is crafty, somehow less important than “Art”.
Just as much love and thought goes into to it now matter what substrate I place it on. But canvas makes it hangable, framable, sellable! lol
For this canvas I used acrylic paint, color mists, masks, clear stickers, ribbon, ink, stamps, frames, flowers, and all sorts of embellishments. Primarily Prima Marketing, Inc. products. They are so beautiful and really make me excited about making things. I think using products you really love helps bring out the creativity. You get that “OOOH OOOH I know what I want to do” feeling when you see the art taking form.
I base coat the canvas with acrylic paint and let it dry. I even use my heat gun to make sure the moisture is out. Then I lay on the mask and start adding layers of color mist. The Adirondack Color Wash by Ranger is permanent when set by heat. So I spray and dry with my heat gun as I go along. It does wick into the paint. That’s part of the fun. See how much you want it to travel. If you don’t like an area you can dab with paper towel and even mist with water. Once I had the masking set I added the embellishments. The word Believe is an old Making Memories transparent sticker. I’ve had that for years, like 10 years. Finally something to use it on!
I hope you try your own canvas. They really are fun and make great gifts. You can really personalize them for something truly one of a kind.
